How I Save Big... My Actual Budget
>> 7.15.2009
I promised I would share, so here it is! This is how I actually spend my money. Each month is a little different based on what is going on in my life, but usually it is similar to this. The "earned money" is post-tax and post-retirement contribution (yes, I contribute 10% to my 401k).

Yep, I live off of about $1200 which means I get to save over half of my money each month. I probably shop a little less than most and eat out more. How is your budget different from mine?*You might have noticed that each figure is rounded up to the next dollar... I do this so that my bank account is padded. I pay my car insurance in full every six months and these extra dollars add up enough to cover it!

Oooh thanks for this! :)
I am going to have a go and use it for next month. Fingers crossed.
Wow, saving half of your money per month is great!! Way to go!
Gosh, with a house payment now, I prolly spend 5x what you spend on a monthly basis. Pre-house though, my apartment alone cost me $1,200. Not sure where you live, but that is the standard of living in CA.
Lyzz – I was thinking the same thing. I'm in NorCal, and I can't remember ever having an apartment under $1200. Even in grad school in NYC, I was paying $650 for shared housing. And that was in 1993. I worked 2 jobs in addition to teaching just to have cash to live. Where is this secret place where you can get by on $1200/mo.?
@Lyzz & Anon- Come to Texas! I lived in a tiny room to get such a great deal, but my boyfriend just moved out of a 900+ sqft 2-bedroom apartment that rented for $850/ month.
