Thrifty Tip-- Go Red!

>> 7.10.2009

Here's a tip that I learned from teachers: red is the most versatile for year-round color (they use it as the backdrop for their bulletin boards so that they don't have to change them very often).

So, when you're faced with a post-holiday sale, buy red! Think napkins, plates, envelopes, candle holders, wrapped candy, etc. While most holiday decorations need to be horded for the next 11 months, red can be used several times a year! Christmas, Valentines, Election Day, and Fourth of July. Plus, when paired with certain other colors, it can work at any occasion.

I just bought a ton of red sprinkles when they were on sale from Fourth of July ($.50 each). I can't wait to use them.... whenever (but especially in my holiday baking)!

What post-holiday sale items work their magic year round in your house?

All great ideas! I think my problem is that all of my other colors are "fallish" as well. I'm just drawn to earth tones. I used to have blues and such in my home for so long that I got tired of them. ;) Now I like it again, but am not going to ruin the flow of earthies in my house right now.

That spring table display is gorgeous!

Hey, only a few month until fall!

Red is my most favorite color! I love these suggestions, esp. the red and aqua for summer. I love to buy the most random things half price after Christmas. Scotch tape, tons of white tissue paper, and white and silver ribbon are always at the top of my list. Thanks for stopping by my blog, it's always so nice to find comments!

I'm always in favor of red--note my blog name ;) ! This is a great idea. In terms of decor, I love how red can be cozy in the winter but can also be crisp when paired with white in the summer.

I like to buy solid colored party supplies (eg: paper plates/napkins) so that I am not "locked into" a theme if I end up having extras and need them for another event. Solid red works great for this!

Thanks for stopping by my blog to say hello!
