Buying the House... the nerves!

>> 8.07.2009

Up until now, I've been filled with excitement about the idea of buying my first home. I couldn't wait to go in and make changes to personalize my space. I've been blogging about it and telling all of my friends. It's practically all I can think about.

In the past few days, reality has sunk in. I will be a home owner later this month! I will have to spend more money and make a bigger commitment than I ever have in my life. What if the pipes break? What if there's a fire? What if I get sick and can't earn any more money? Did I choose the best place? Yep, the excitement has turned into nerves. I wanted this though, right?

Have you experienced first-time buyer nerves? How did you get over it?

Yes, I got a little nervous right before we bought our house (just over a month ago). I got over it because I knew we were buying a house we could afford. In our case, if either one of us were to quit working or lose our job, the other could cover the mortgage and the bills.

It is a huge purchase, and it's natural to have a case of cold feet, but keep that excitement alive - you'll have so much fun owning your own place! :)

I went through a condo conversion. I was renting my unit and then I bought it. Friends and family didn't act like it was a big deal. After all, no move was involved. But, after moving six times in the ten years prior, a move wouldn't have been scary.

What was scary was that interest rates at the time were unstable and the sellers were not as thorough as one would hope. My closing date got moved back a few times because of government paperwork that had to come through. Eventually, the dates required me to pay to extend my loan offer (they're good for a fixed period). I remember being so stressed that I lost a ton of sleep and felt stiff at times.

I had no doubt about wanting my place. I was just anxious about getting everything done.

Good luck! Hang in there!

If you wish for a well furnished house then you should ask for help from the professionals in housing related work.
