Remember how my pile of unfinished furniture projects turned into a Craigslist ban last month? Well, I've figured out a way to continue seeing Craig while following the verbal contract I made with Nate. Technically I'm not allowed to buy any more furniture projects off of the list...
Enter my new rugs! I was actually in need of a new rug for the dining room and when I saw a listing for a year old 8x10 West Elm Jute Bouclé Rug for $50 (retail: $199), I had to check it out! It was in perfect condition and destined to come home with me...
Thrifty tip: Use your favorite store's name as the keywords for a search. You never know what will pop up!
If I hadn't asked, I wouldn't have walked away with two 8x10 coordinating rugs for $60 (retail $600).
Wall decor doesn't count as furniture either...
That's why I was able to swoop in and grab this 27 inch mirror from Four Hands for $30. I thought it would be perfect for the fireplace, but was wrong. I'm sure you'll see it popping up on the wall sometime soon.

Finally, in my (non-furniture) search for a new statement light fixture for the living room, I came across this $20 modern chandelier. It was interesting and cheap so I emailed the seller as soon as I saw it. It turned out to be a great deal; these currently retail for $489!
What do you think about my idea of painting the chandelier a different color? White to soften the look? A fun color to add pop to the room? Should I make Nate happy and keep it as-is?

WOW! Great finds.. and great tips!
$10 for the Pottery Barn rug?! Wow, I definitely bought the 5x8 size in ivory for $300. :(
I like the chandelier as it is... I think it'll really pull together the black and white in the chairs. Great finds! :)
I say keep it as is! It looks great black and it'll save you time for other, more pressing projects :o)
Im going to have to go with keeping it as is!! But then again im a sucker for black and white geometric stuff :)
great deals! I agree check out craigslist late at night, thats how we got a great dresser for $ 45.00
I like the rugs, what a great deal! The new light it cool too - it would look more modern white, but it looks fine black too
oooooooo....I am jealous! You are always finding the great stuff on there!
Great finds! I can't believe you got that second rug so cheap! I would have never thought to ask the seller for any additional items. Good tips!
I, too, like the chandelier as is.
Great thifty tips, all around.
I would strongly consider painting the chandelier a fun color to avoid neutral overload in the space.
Great tips and purchases! I read on a blog somewhere (can't remember where) to watch out for terms like "Pottery Barn - esque". That means it's NOT from Pottery Barn. Ha! I like the chandelier how it is, but I also think it could look cool a different color.
Fantastic tips, Kasey, and ones I never would have thought of. Great bargain hunting too!
As for the color of the lamp...*starts shaking a can of spray paint*
You seriously are my thrifty hero! I feel like everything good in NYC just goes so quickly though!
Great finds, wow!
I think the chandelier would look great in white. It would still look fabulous but create less of a visual break when you're looking from livingroom to kitchen.
I did a search on Craigslist using Pottery Barn as a filter, and holy cow are you right! I found an $1800 sofa for $220!
@Erin~ I can imagine that it's much more competitive there! I'm sure that searching at odd hours would help thin out the crowd though. If I'm worried about someone else jumping in on an item before me, I usually write, "I'm interested in X. I can pick it up as early as X."
@Life in Rehab~ There are great deals to be found out there, but like hiphousegirl said, make sure it's actually Pottery Barn and not Pottery Barn-esque. You wouldn't believe the deals I've seen by searching "Restoration Hardware!"
re: chandelier.. paint it! the black/white combo almost looks a little too standard issue.. a gunmetal gray (i guess that's the new vogue term for dark gray) or a different color in the neutrals could give a bit of interest ...
in any case, great steals from craig!

love the light, that's excellent! i'm not sure that I would paint it, but I think it'd be fine either way.
you could add some personality by doing something with the shades, maybe something to tie it to the perky fabric on the chairs?
wow, look at you! great ideas. i never buy anything on craigslist because i don't have a car in which to go pick it up :(
i love the geometric chandelier. i think it would look cool in a color, but otherwise leave it black- the white would ruin the contrast of the shades, IMO!!
Keep the chandy as is, it's really cool and will echo the dark in your kitchen. Amazing rug finds! Although, I can't imagine a PB rug for $10 will happen for many other bloggers. That seller was clearly out of touch with reality. I just got $150 from a buyer for an 8x10 Shaw rug that wasn't even wool! It was in perfect condition, though. You are a lucky girl!
You always find such great things! I am jealous! :)
