a quick house tour
>> 8.02.2010
I've been asked several times to post a full house tour on the blog. My guess is that you thought I was hiding some secretly decorated rooms from you. Trust me, the rooms I haven't written about were not worth posting. I guess since I promised to post my tour by August 1st (sorry, I thought today was August 1st), you can just see for yourself...
My Current House Tour:
the front yard
the backyard
We really haven't put any work into the exterior spaces of the house (yet). The plan is to start beautifying the space once the half Ironman training is over in October.
the kitchen
The kitchen is the first room to your right as you walk into the home. Read more about its makeover here.
across the hall from the kitchen is...
the half bath (aka hot mess bathroom #1)
The walls, the mirror, the light... how can so many things be so wrong in such a small space?!
after passing the bathroom, you'll find yourself looking at the entryway on your left...
the entryway
and the dining area on the right...
the dining room
finally, past the dining room is...
the living room
1. Yes, it's super boring right now.
2. There will be art on the walls and a mantle on the fireplace eventually.
3. I haaate the 1980's sliding glass door and it will probably go soon.
4. The rug is in the garage right now. Jute is difficult to clean and I don't want any Hugo puddles ruining it!
To get to the bedrooms, you have to go up the stairs and into...
the upstairs hallway
I'm only showing this because it's so crazy. Not only have I not replaced the ugly blinds that came with the house, but I've added a sheet of cardboard and a baby gate to keep Hugo from getting anxiety when he sees strangers out the window.
The door to your right leads to a closet and the door to the left leads to...
the master bedroom
1. Yes, I bought the blue Nate Berkus duvet set... post on that soon.
2. "Building in" the IKEA PAX is on the to-do list.
3. Art and accessories are also on the to-do list.
4. *Ugly ceiling fan not pictured.
Off the master bedroom, you'll see...
the master bathroom
Read more about the master bathroom here.
on the other end of the upstairs hallway is...
the office
1. I haven't painted the walls yet.
2. I haven't removed the popcorn from the ceiling yet.
3. Other than moving furniture into this space, zero thought has been put into this room.
and if two bathrooms weren't enough for this 1,100 square foot space...
the other full bathroom (aka hot mess bathroom #2)
Please note the wall and ceiling textures... niiiice.
Also, it just seems crazy to have more toilets than people in a house, no?
As you can see, I have enough blog material for the next 5 years. Stay tuned as I work through each space!
Any guesses to which space I'll finish next?

Kasey, you seem so embarrassed! There's nothing wrong with your house! For not having put much thought into it, the second bedroom/office is not bad at ALL. Do you know what mine looks like right now?? A storage unit! STILL!! That is funny that your house has 2.5 bathrooms, although it would be kinda nice. And I'm thrilled that you have a lot to blog about in the future! You are doing a fantastic job!
I totally saw some left over pieces of dog toy in your master. I feel for you with the dog stuff - it's amazing what we put up with for our furry little buddies.
I have more toilets, showers, and tubs than people in my house. Each bath is a full. Each bath is butt-ugly in my house, too, so don't feel bad about yours.
Our bathroom has crazy wall and ceiling textures too! What were they thinking??
I'm in the same boat some rooms looking good, some rooms not so much :) but I wish I had more bathrooms like you do!
Everything will come together in time, I love your kitchen and bathroom makeovers and your dining room too. You have a great house layout!
I love your house! And it's big! Holy cow! (I would kill for a third bathroom ...) I have the same hated sliding doors - I can't wait until they get the heave ho too!
And the fact that your place has furniture means you're light years ahead of me ...
Your house is adorable; you should have seen mine when we moved in! Stop by Beach Bungalow and have a look!
Sue
OMG I love the clothing drying rack in the spare shower! haha what a great idea so it doesn't get the floor wet!
In a weird way, it's kinda nice that you have some rooms that aren't finished. Makes me feel less like a slacker! Some blogs I read, every room in the house is polished, and with you, I feel like I get to be apart of the journey and learn as you go. I love it!
I love to see the "real" rooms in bloggers houses. My master bath is my hot mess!
You've done way more than I did in my house, I say take it room at a time. I'm hosting a giveaway on my blog that would be great for your bathrooms. www.homedecorbudgetista.blogspot.com
Thanks for the house tour! I can totally appreciate you featuring your "not so favorite" rooms. I've been hesitant to photograph mine! I don't think a house is ever done... there's always something to decorate, something to fix and something to dream of doing to it.
We've been living in our house for over a year and I'm always like ehh when people come and visit.. "Its not finished yet.." so I know how you feel.. I haven't even had a house-warming party, imagine!
At least you're on the right track! I am betting you'll tackle your bedroom cuz you've done the nightstands and you ordered the bedspread... hmm?
I've lived at my condo for over two years and I still feel like it's a work in progress, so I appreciate seeing a 'real' home! Thanks for sharing with us! I still love what you've done with your bathroom and kitchen. I'll guess that you are working on the living room next.
Maybe you've already mentioned this, but have you considered frosting that front hallway window, or maybe just the part Hugo can see through? That would block his view without blocking light, but I realize you may like being able to see through it.
@theresa clare~ That's a good option. Since Hugo is still a puppy, I'm hoping that he's just in phase and that we'll be able to have a normal window soon. I've found that most dogs mellow out around 2... and I'm crossing my fingers for Hugo!
i like your office--you have a great space and some nice pieces in there already. So that wouldn't be a priority to redo, I imagine...
maybe hot mess bath #1 is next on the list, given that it's near the kitchen? even if you just painted, that'd make a big difference.
Great to see another house coming along! I adore the light above the table in your dining room. Great job!
