Thrifty Little Tip: Find Cash Discounts
>> 11.04.2010
Your new favorite question:
"Can you give me a discount for paying in cash?"
When finding pay in cash discounts:
*Take the initiative to ask. You might be a cash person. That doesn't mean you'll automatically receive all discounts that might be available.
*Your best bet is with the small and local businesses. They don't usually have deals with credit card companies or fees built in. Think outside of the box- neighborhood florist, vet, or favorite restaurant?
*Weigh your options. Will the rewards points that you earn by using the credit card come out to be more or less than the cash discount?
*Make sure you aren't being penalized already. Some businesses add on fees when a customer uses credit over cash.
Have you ever found savings by paying in cash?

oh, yes, we do this all the time! whether it's home stuff or a custom ring from a local jeweler. it doesn't hurt that my boyfriend prefers to pay cash, while i like to charge charge charge.
glad you were able to save on your sod!
I am a fan of this, but not when it comes to gas. lol
Believe it or not, we save 15% by paying cash upfront at the orthodontist.
I can't remember if I've gotten a discount for using cash, but I usually try to with local vendors. I actually stopped using my American Express card and got a Mastercard instead because I felt badly about Amex's high fees.
Our merchant member agreement prohibits charging a fee for a credit card transaction, but we are usually happy to discount a cash transaction or throw in extra product. I hate asking for discounts, but my husband isn't shy about it at all... and it usually pays off! ~Jennifer
