Sale Wording Decoded
>> 12.27.2010
Decoded: "We'll have a different sale tomorrow."
"Up to 75% off in stores now!"
Decoded: "Some of the markdowns will be 75% off, but most are under 50%."
"Take an extra 20% off of sale items this week only."
Decoded: "We don't really want to go through the trouble of marking down things now, but we'll have to mark an additional 20% off next week if anything is left over."
Thrifty little tip: No matter what threats or promises those retail stores are throwing at you post-holidays, just remember that prices are bound to keep dropping. Decide for yourself if you'd like to risk waiting for another price drop before your favorite sweater sells out (if there are dozens available, it probably won't!).

You trip me out with this girl! It's true, though! I usually wait til the end of January or the begining of Feb. because thats when most of the spring items arrive and they have to clear out the winter items. discounts go as high as 80% off!
I hope you have a happy New Year!
This is very true! I'm trying to not shop for anything though, I truly don't need it and the sales just fuel my 'shopaholic' fire! HA
What a great post! and omg SO True! Working retail through HS and college and even a little after college has made me so skeptical of sales! I try to single out the price at hand and decide if it's a must have or not!

Agreed! I have a little pep talk I give myself (I know, I'm crazy). I ask myself, would I lose any sleep if you didn't have this (blank)? If the answer is no (which it almost always is - silver tree excluded), I walk away. That's how I get the best stuff. They are practically giving it away by the new year.
I hate the sales that are the 'biggest of the year.' Really? You had the same sale last week.
Too funny! I always tread a fine line between waiting for prices to drop and items selling out!
